Why 30 People from One Family Won’t Leave Palmerston | 1 Ancestor, 0 Flights | Travel 4K
Palmerston is a ring of coral in the South Pacific, about 470 km north-west of Rarotonga. Around thirty people live on it, and almost all of them descend from one man: William Marsters, who stepped ashore in 1863 and never left. There is no airport, a supply ship calls roughly every three months, and the island school has twelve students. They hold New Zealand passports and could leave tomorrow. This is why they stay.
Edge of the Map is a documentary series about the people who stay where almost no one else would. New episode every Saturday.
