I Restored Her Father’s Harley Using One Old Photograph

Using one photograph from over 30 years ago, I restored a 1984 Harley-Davidson Ironhead Sportster to resemble the motorcycle a little girl remembered as her father's. Then I returned it to her family. Then I returned it to her family. More than 30 years ago, six-year-old Erica stood behind her father's Harley-Davidson XLX for a photograph. Over the years, that motorcycle changed, and eventually it sat unused for more than 23 years. In our previous video, we brought this old Ironhead back to life and got it running again. Now we're going to bring it back to the motorcycle Erica remembers. Working from that one old photograph, I strip the motorcycle down to its rolling chassis and engine, remove years of corrosion, refinish the aluminum, restore the paint and chrome, and rebuild it using a combination of original, used, restored, and new parts. New Shinko tires with white lettering, new brakes, updated hand controls, a replacement front master cylinder, wiring repairs, and countless hours of cleaning, refinishing, and reassembly bring this old Sportster back together. After getting it running and taking it for a ride along the river and dam, I load it onto the trailer and deliver it to Erica and her family. What happens next reminds me why these old motorcycles are worth saving. Four generations of family come together to see the finished Harley, including Rebel's 88-year-old mother, who climbs onto her son's motorcycle one more time.
