The Hardest Stage of Life Is Between 65 and 75—Here’s What Nobody Prepares You For

🔗 Stay in Your Own Home, on Your Own Terms, with My Book, Still My Call: https://joanwhitaker.com Everybody prepares you for retirement. The financial planner, the going-away party, the brochures with couples walking on a beach. Nobody prepares you for the ten years after it. The phone stops ringing from work. A friend you've had for forty years gets a diagnosis. Your children start asking careful questions about the stairs. And somewhere in there, without anybody announcing it, the people around you start treating you differently than they did a year ago. In this video I talk about why I believe the years between 65 and 75 are the hardest stage of life, and what nobody tells you before you get there. I'm on the far side of that stretch now. I spent 35 years as a CPA, and I'm used to looking at the numbers nobody wants to look at. This time the numbers were my own life. I'll be honest with you up front, the way I always am. These can also be some of the best years you'll ever have, with more time and more freedom than you've had since you were young. I'm not here to make anybody dread them. I'm here to name the hard parts plainly, because the hard parts are a lot easier to handle when you see them coming. I talk about what happens to who you are when the work that defined you ends. I talk about losing friends, and sometimes a spouse, and how that changes your days in ways people don't talk about. I share what shifts between you and your grown children, and how to keep the decisions about your life in your own hands. I talk about money on a fixed income, the house, and the first health changes that make you start planning differently. And I tell you what helped me most. If grief or loneliness starts to feel heavier than you can carry, tell your doctor or someone you trust. That's not weakness. That's good sense. Nobody makes any money telling you the truth about these years. That's why the retirement brochures stop at the beach. Tell me in the comments: what part of your sixties or seventies surprised you the most? And tell me if you're watching for yourself or for a parent. I read every single one. Subscribe so you don't miss it. Independence isn't where you live. It's who gets to decide. #Retirement #AgingWell #Over60 #Over70 #AgingInPlace #SeniorLiving #LifeAfterRetirement #AgingParents #AdultChildren #StayingIndependent #SeniorAdvice #Retired #GettingOlder #Widowhood #Grief
