Why Does She Walk Alone? A Polar Bear's Day in the High Arctic

At the very edge of the habitable world, one female polar bear walks alone across the sea ice of Svalbard — from the first muted light of dawn to the violet hour of nightfall. Follow her through a single day in the High Arctic: a silent stalk across the pack ice, belugas surfacing like ghosts, a walrus colony sleeping like thunder on the beach, bowhead whales breaching in the twilight, narwhals at the ice edge, an ancient Greenland shark gliding beneath the floes — and one Arctic fox's magnificent leap into the snow. This is Kingdom of Ice. One bear. One day. 🔔 Subscribe to Wild by the Hour for a new hour-by-hour wildlife film every week. ⏱ CHAPTERS 0:00 Cold Open: One Bear, One Day 0:34 Dawn at 78° North 2:26 The First Stalk 2:53 Belugas and the Walrus Beach 4:06 08:00 – Following the Apex Predator 4:42 Giants Offshore: the Bowhead Whale 5:17 Life on the Barren Tundra 5:56 The Swimmer and the Harp Seal 6:32 Midday: The Great Stillness 7:10 Greenland Shark: A Living Relic 7:45 Narwhals at the Ice Edge 8:21 Afternoon on the Tundra 8:55 The Meltwater Pool 9:30 The Sleeping Walrus Colony 10:42 The Bowhead Dives 11:19 The Silent Stalk 11:59 Evening: Shadows Lengthen 13:05 Panic on the Ice 13:12 Twilight: The Violet Hour 15:03 Narwhals Beneath the Glassy Ocean 15:40 The Fox's Leap 16:17 The Last Light 17:33 Nightfall at the Edge of the Ice 🐾 IN THIS EPISODE Polar bear · Atlantic walrus · Beluga whale · Bowhead whale · Narwhal · Greenland shark · Ringed seal · Harp seal · Bearded seal · Arctic fox · Svalbard reindeer · Arctic hare · Atlantic puffin · Little auk · Arctic tern · Northern fulmar · Glaucous gull · King eider · Rock ptarmigan · Snow bunting 🎬 About this film: the visuals in this episode were created with AI video tools (Google Veo) and edited with original narration.
