Death Note’s FORGOTTEN movie is INSANE…

Death Note remains one of the most recognisable psychological thriller anime and manga series of all time. Originally created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows Light Yagami, L Lawliet, Ryuk, and the supernatural power of the Death Note itself. From the original Death Note anime adaptation by Madhouse to the manga, live-action Japanese films, and Death Note: Light Up the New World, the franchise continues to explore morality, justice, manipulation, and the consequences of absolute power. Death Note: Light Up the New World focuses on the schism between Light Yagami and L Lawliet’s successors to find the 6 Death Notes dropped around Earth by the Shinigami. Fan favourites like Ryuk, Misa Amane, Touta Matsuda, Teru Mikami and many more all make appearances in this film. Released in 2016, Death Note: Light Up the New World is a too often forgotten piece of Death Note’s history, but with its absolutely insane story and unimaginable plot twists, this deserves way more recognition. I consider it the “endgame” of Death Note, through it’s convoluted plans, absurdity, and shinigami shenanigans, its Death Note at its most Death Note. For anyone interested in psychological thriller anime, supernatural mysteries, detective fiction, Japanese cinema, and mind-game storytelling, Death Note: Light Up the New World offers a particularly bizarre continuation of one of anime’s most influential franchises. Its combination of crime investigation, supernatural horror, philosophical conflict, and elaborate character schemes makes it an interesting watch for longtime Death Note fans and newcomers exploring the wider Death Note universe. Whether you’re a fan of Death Note, Light Yagami, L Lawliet, Ryuk, Misa Amane, Near, Mello, or the original Kira investigation, Light Up the New World is a fascinating addition to the franchise. If you’ve watched the Death Note anime, read the original manga, enjoyed the Japanese live-action adaptations, or explored the various Death Note movies, this is one entry worth revisiting. The legacy of Kira, the Death Note rules, the Shinigami realm, and the battle between justice and evil continue long after Light Yagami’s original story.
