Even the sun rises slowly. 🌅 A mountain summit in Japan at the very start of an autumn morning. Below, a sea of clouds fills every valley, and the sun is just lifting over its far edge, turning the sky peach and gold and spilling warm light across the cloud tops. A wandering ronin sits on a mossy rock among silver grass, under a maple turned deep red, back straight, hands resting on his knees, his face turned toward the rising sun and his eyes closed. His hat and sword are set down beside him. He climbed here in the dark. Now he only has to watch. This piece is inspired by "GORAIKŌ" (御来光) — the sunrise seen from a mountain summit. In Japan, people climb through the night to greet the first light of the day from above the clouds. And when it finally comes, it never hurries. It takes its time, a little brighter with every breath, as if to say that a good day does not need to begin all at once. Shakuhachi breathes slowly, like cold morning air moving over the summit. Koto falls in soft, scattered notes, like the first light touching the clouds below. Nothing here asks you to be ready yet. The day can start at the pace of the sun.
